Jessica Rivera has filed a lawsuit against Lewis Food Town, Inc., alleging negligence and premises liability following a slip-and-fall incident at one of the company's stores. The complaint was filed in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, on December 4, 2024. Rivera claims that the grocery store chain failed to maintain safe conditions on its premises, leading to her serious injuries.

The case stems from an incident on February 14, 2024, when Jessica Rivera visited a Food Town store located at 1420 Cypress Creek Parkway in Houston, Texas. According to the lawsuit, Rivera slipped and fell due to a slippery substance on the floor. She argues that Lewis Food Town had a duty to ensure the safety of its invitees by either eliminating or adequately warning them about dangerous conditions present in their stores. "Plaintiff's injuries and damages are a direct result of an unreasonably dangerous condition on Defendant’s premises," states the petition.

Rivera's complaint outlines several allegations against Lewis Food Town under negligence and premises liability theories. She accuses the company of failing to properly maintain the store for customer use, neglecting to exercise reasonable care in addressing hazardous conditions, inadequately training employees, and not providing sufficient warnings about potential dangers. The lawsuit asserts that these failures resulted in severe physical injuries for Rivera, including pain and suffering, mental anguish, disfigurement, lost wages, and diminished earning capacity.

In terms of relief sought from the court, Jessica Rivera is pursuing monetary compensation exceeding $250,000 but less than $1 million. Her legal team emphasizes that discovery is ongoing; hence they reserve the right to adjust this amount as more information becomes available. Additionally, Rivera demands a jury trial for her case and seeks recovery for medical expenses incurred as well as those anticipated in the future.

Representing Jessica Rivera is Sofia E. Bruera from Bruera Law Firm PLLC based in Houston. The presiding judge over this matter will be determined by Harris County's District Court system under Case ID 2024-84770.
