McGuireWoods is a sponsor of the Dallas Women Lawyers Association, a nonprofit organization of over 1,300 active members dedicated to elevating the standing of women in the legal profession. During the association’s annual meeting held Dec. 3, 2024, McGuireWoods partner Chelsea Hilliard was elected by her peers to serve as DWLA’s president for 2025. Her term began Jan. 1. Hilliard is the first McGuireWoods lawyer elected to the DWLA leadership position.

DWLA provides a space dedicated to women lawyers’ personal and professional development by offering award-winning programming, including:

  • The Pitch, a nationally recognized program that provides women lawyers with a business development opportunity to present a mock pitch and elevator speech to in-house lawyers and receive real-time feedback.
  • Unique mentoring opportunities, like the nationally recognized Women’s Mentoring Circles, which promote the development, advancement and retention of women lawyers through mentorship, education and community-building activities.
  • ElevateHER, a novel program that offers strategies, information and tools to empower women to promote and sell their legal services. McGuireWoods sponsored the inaugural ElevateHER events at its Dallas office in 2024.
“The DWLA plays a vital role empowering women in the legal profession,” Hilliard said. “I am honored to serve as president and grateful for McGuireWoods’ support.”

Hilliard counsels companies in litigation arising out of mergers and acquisitions, particularly venture capital or private equity-financed investments. She handles stockholder derivative cases, securities class actions, internal investigations, and investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice. She represents companies across industries, including financial services, institutional investing, energy, healthcare and manufacturing.

In addition to her leadership role with DWLA, Hilliard recently completed a one-year term as secretary-treasurer of the Dallas Bar Association’s board of directors. She will continue to serve on the DBA board in 2025.
