Jefferson County doctor sued after patient dies

A Jefferson County doctor is facing suit after allegedly providing inadequate medical care, resulting in death.

Harrell Jones, individually and on behalf of the Estate of Ethyl Earline Jones, his deceased wife, and Amanda Patton, their daughter, filed a lawsuit Jan. 8 in the Jefferson County District Court against Dr. John T. Fowler, Beaumont Internal Medicine & Geriatric Associates and Dr. Kyle Peterson, citing negligence.

The complaint states on Nov. 1, 2011, Ethyl Earline Jones was a patient under the defendant's care for severe abdominal pain and dyspnea.

The plaintiffs contend the defendant acted negligently by delaying in diagnosing Ethyl Earline Jones. As a result of the defendant's negligence, Ethyl Earline Jones died Nov. 22, 2011, according to the complaint.

The suit alleges, among other acts of negligence, that the defendants failed to immediately order a CT Scan to determine the cause of Ethyl Earline Jones' pain and symptoms, and thereby delayed the discovery of her perforated duodenal ulcer and ischemic perforated right colon which resulted in irreversible and terminal sepsis and renal failure.

The plaintiffs are seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.

They are being represented in the case by attorney B. Adam Terrell of Weller Green Toups & Terrell LLP in Beaumont.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
