A Harris County woman is suing over claims she was injured when a Katy police officer allegedly detained and wrongfully prosecuted her.
Janet Meyer filed a lawsuit Oct. 15 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against officer Bock, citing wrongful prosecution.
According to the complaint, Meyer, a registered nurse, was preparing her daughter's asthma breathing treatment set up in her room June 2, when three Katy Police Department officers arrived at her home in Katy. Meyer says the police asked about her suicidal tendencies, which Meyer denied, but informed the police that she had a disgruntled ex-boyfriend who made frequent calls to the police.
The complaint states the police then asked Meyer about her alcohol consumption, and she told them she'd had a glass of wine, and when she asked the officers to leave they would not. Meyer says the officers forced their way into her bedroom and she began videotaping them as officer Bock forced her to her front yard after she refused to go outside and then arrested her for public intoxication.
The complaint states Meyer was treated forcefully and thrown to the ground, which caused pain to her head and back and aggravated previous injuries, including a recent concussion and ongoing post concussion syndrome. Meyer says she was moved to a police vehicle and then to a dirty cell in the Katy Police Department jail, where police ignored her calls for an EMS check or permission for a family member to drop off medication.
According to the lawsuit, after Meyer was bonded out she began experiencing increasing pain and vomiting, was diagnosed with a concussion and a fractured back June 21, and put on anti-seizure medications.
Meyer says the public intoxication charge was dismissed, and she complained to the Kay Police Department, but officer Bock has not been disciplined. Bock is accused of 4th and 14th amendment violations and wrongful prosecution.
Meyer seeks punitive damages, interest and attorney fees. She is represented by attorney Randall L. Kallinen of Law Office of Randall L. Kallinen in Houston.
