Texas City wreck results in lawsuit

A Galveston County resident is suing over injuries allegedly sustained in a collision at a Texas City intersection.

Gardenia Broussard filed a lawsuit Oct. 30 in Galveston County District Court against Willis Dean Cauley Sr., citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Broussard was driving south on 14th Street North on Jan. 6, 2013, when Cauley, who was driving west at an unsafe speed on 9th Avenue North, ran the red light at the intersection of the two streets and struck the driver’s side of Broussard's vehicle, severely injuring the plaintiff. Cauley is accused of negligence and negligence per se in driving at an unsafe speed and running a red traffic signal.

Broussard seeks more than $100,000 in damages, including medical expenses, costs to repair her vehicle, interest and costs of court. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Russell G. Burwell III of Burwell Nebout in Texas City.
