Catherine Wood, individually and as representative of the estate of Robert Lance Wood, deceased, filed a for a temporary restraining order Nov. 6, 2012, in Jefferson County District Court against Elmer Ray Rivers Jr.

According to the complaint, Robert Lance Wood was stopped at a red light on South LHS Drive in Lumberton on Oct. 16, 2014, when Rivers, who was driving under the influence of alcohol, struck the back of Wood's vehicle, pushing it into the towed unit in front of him and causing Wood to sustain fatal injuries.
