A Jefferson County man is suing over claims he was injured while working on a vessel.

John Aviles filed a lawsuit Nov. 7, 2014, in Jefferson County District Court against Sabine Ship Services Inc., citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Aviles was working for the defendant April 4, 2014, when the vessel he was working on in the ExxonMobil dock collided with a Dolphin navigation marker, causing Aviles to be ejected into open water. He says he sustained injuries to his ribs, back and neck.

Aviles seeks damages, lost wages and attorney fees. He is represented by attorney Matthew D. Shaffer of Schechter, McElwee, Shaffer and Harris in Houston.
