A Harrison County man is suing his former employer, alleging unlawful termination.
Aristeo Ramos, of Marshall, filed charges Jan. 14 against Trimac Transport Central Inc. of Dallas, in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas, U.S. District Court, alleging discrimination.
According to the complaint, when Ramos was originally hired as a trailer loader he informed Trimac he was unable to read or write in English and was not required to fill out paperwork prior to being assigned to a new supervisor. The new supervisor terminated Ramos May 23, 2014, on the basis of his illiteracy, the suit states.
Ramos charges unlawful and systematic exclusion and discrimination against himself as a Hispanic male, citing the employer’s failure to equalize working conditions and adopting discriminatory policies in violation of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission regulations.
Ramos seeks compensatory and punitive damages for lost pay, lowered quality of life, attorney fees, expenses and costs. He is represented by attorney William Hommel Jr. of Hommel Law Firm in Tyler.
