A Louisiana man has sued two offshore energy companies on allegations of gross negligence.

Emanuel Watson filed a lawsuit Feb. 19 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Fieldwood Energy Offshore of Austin and Sparrows Offshore of Dallas, alleging worksite negligence.

According to the suit, Watson, who was employed by Offshore Services of Acadiana, slipped and fell on leaked oil while working as a galley hand in the Gulf of Mexico on May 26, 2014. Sparrows Offshore had been working on the equipment from which the oil had leaked, the suit states.

The complaint cites failure to maintain equipment and deck safety, warn the plaintiff of dangerous conditions, barricade the area and use sand or other absorbents to address the leak.

Watson suffered pain and suffering, disability and disfigurement, lost employment time and wages, the suit states.

Watson seeks: compensation for medical expenses; punitive damages; attorney fees; expenses; and costs. He is represented by attorney Marc Evan Kutner of Spagnoletti & Co. in Houston.

Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas case number: 3:15-CV-00036.
