The largest state insurance trade association in the country handed out more than two-dozen scholarships to Texas students this spring.
The Insurance Council of Texas awarded 26 students at five Texas universities $21,000 in academic scholarships, according to a Thursday, April 23, press release.
“These ICT scholarship recipients are the cream of the crop and we hope they move to a career in property and casualty insurance,” said Tony Gonzalez, president of the ICT Education Foundation.
“It is important that we provide these students with an opportunity to learn more about the insurance industry. There are a variety of jobs in the insurance industry and we are always looking for the best and brightest.”
The recognized students are either seeking a degree in insurance or risk management or taking courses in the subject. Each student received a scholarship and will be invited to attend ICT’s annual Mid-Year Symposium in Austin on July 9, where insurance industry leaders gather to hear an update on the Texas marketplace.
Each year, all Symposium corporate sponsorships, and individual donations, go to the ICT scholarships and school funding.
The students attend the University of Houston Downtown, the University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas Southern University in Houston, the University of Houston-Main campus and the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg.
Since 2002, the Insurance Council of Texas Education Foundation has awarded $778,500 to 11 Texas universities and 373 insurance and risk management students.
