An offshore platform worker injured in a 2014 fall has sued the platform's owner.
Rickey T. Babin filed a lawsuit April 21 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against W&T Offshore Inc.
According to the complaint, on Aug. 21, 2014, Babin was working for Panel Specialists Inc. in the Gulf of Mexico on W&T's VK823 platform, when he tripped on "a pile of stacked grating on the platform of which he was provided no warning." The suit states the defendant was negligent in: failing to ensure the deck was free of trip and fall hazards; failing to warn the plaintiff of the hazard; and other acts or omissions.
The plaintiff cites serious injury, loss of earnings and earning capacity, mental anguish, pain and suffering, disfigurement, impairment and medical expenses.
Babin seeks unspecified damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, punitive damages, attorney fees and court costs. He is represented by attorney Marcus R. Spagnoletti of Spagnoletti and Co. in Houston.
