Attorney Frani Broussard was 'arrested' and brought to night court last month for an MDA fundraiser at Suga's.

A recent event had many of the area's attorneys appearing before a judge in a different kind of court.

On March 22, the Muscular Dystrophy Association had several legal eagles "arrested" and hauled to night court at Suga's Deep South Cuisine & Jazz Bar.

The lawyers had to plead their case before judge Craig Lively with one good attorney joke and turning in their $2,380 bail, an amount which funds 35 minutes of research in muscular dystrophy.

The Jefferson County lawyers did an outstanding job of raising more than $24,000 in gross proceeds, according to Lynn McGrath, program coordinator.

After being released from handcuffs, the attorneys were set free to mingle and enjoy hors d'oeuvres provided by Suga's and drinks from Giglio Distributing. Bill Leger of KFDM was the emcee for the .

The top attorney for the event was John Werner of Reaud, Morgan and Quinn raising $5,115. Frani Broussard of Wells Peyton was close behind raising $4,870.

Other legal eagles participating in the event included Mike (Joe) Dodson, Robert Hobbs, Gaylyn Cooper, Olen Dodd, Jimmy Hamm, Gordon Friesz, Joe Kidwell, Toby Nash, Jonathan Juhan, Collin Shellenberger, John Morgan, Christopher McKinney, Lori Slocum, Rachel Fox Scott, Michael Bridwell, Rodney Barnewell, Tom Pearson, Mark Sparks, Tracy Richardson, Helen Case, Mark Faggard and Eric Newell
