Heather Ragan, a former sales associate with Specialty Retailers (Beall's Department Store), was told to stock some merchandise. She injured herself in the process and is now suing the Port Arthur shop for negligently making her perform work "not conductive to the safe performance of her duties."
Ragan's petition was filed with the Jefferson County District Court on May 17. Court assignment is pending.
The suit does not say how or when Ragan suffered her injuries, only that she "suffered personal injuries to her body as a direct and proximate result of the defendant's negligence."
The suit also faults Beall's for negligently failing to provide a safe place to work, failing to coordinate the work in a safe manner and failing to enforce its own safety regulations.
Regan is suing for physical pain and suffering in the past and future, mental anguish in the past and future, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, disfigurement in the past and future, physical impairment in the past and future, and past and future medical expenses.
She is also suing for the loss of enjoyment of life.
Attorney John Werner of the Reaud, Morgan & Quinn law firm will be representing Ragan. She is demanding a trial by jury.
