Plaintiff receives $7K for car wreck

A Jefferson County jury awarded Frances Griffin $7,162.24 in damages on Wednesday, Sept. 26 for injuries she suffered in a 2002 automobile accident.

The trial, Frances Griffin vs. Kristina Hilton, began on Monday, Sept. 24 in Judge Donald Floyd's 172nd Judicial Court.

According to the plaintiff's original petition, on July 8, 2002, Griffin was a passenger in a Chevy Suburban traveling on College Street when the vehicle she was riding in was "unexpectedly and violently struck from behind by Kristina Hilton's vehicle."

"As a direct and proximate result of the negligence of Defendant�Plaintiff suffered physical injuries, physical and mental pain and anguish, and medical expenses," the suit said. "Plaintiff's injuries may necessitate future medical treatment, and Plaintiff will continue to suffer mental and physical pain and anguish in the future.

The jury awarded Griffin $3,650 for her past physical pain and suffering, $112 for lost wages and $3,400.24 for her past medical expenses.

The plaintiff was represented by the Crutchfield, De Cordova & Wood law firm.

The defendant was represented by the Germer Gertz law firm.
