This Just In: Recent civil filings in Orange County District Courts

Oct. 18

- Archie Dubose et al vs. Gulf Oil et al

Family members of the late Archie Dubose are claiming their benefactor's leukemia was caused by benzene exposure and are suing his former employers, Gulf Oil (Chevron) and Sabine River and Northern Railroad Co. According to the plaintiffs' petition, Dubose was exposed to benzene through his employment at Gulf Oil from 1957 to 1961. Gulf Oil later became Chevron U.S.A.

"As a result of these exposures, plaintiffs contend that Dubose contracted myelodysplastic syndrome (leukemia) from which he died a painful and terrible death on Oct. 21, 2005."

The suit goes on to allege all 11 defendants named in the suit are guilty of gross negligence.

- Chad Landry vs. Smith Lake Swimming Park et al

Aimee Varner lost her life this summer when she drowned at Smith Lake Swimming Park in Orange County. Seeking financial compensation for her death, Chad Landry, Varner's benefactor, is suing the swimming park and its owners/employees, claiming Smith Lake lifeguards negligently allowed Varner to drown.

- Robert Snider vs. Orange Shipbuilding Co. et al

Electricity began coursing through Robert Snider's body when he rubbed up against a live wire. He was installing a HVAC system on a ship at the time of the incident and claims the wire was unmarked.

Seeking compensation in excess of $100,000 for his injuries, Snider has filed suit against Orange Shipbuilding Company, Inc. and Rio Marine, Inc.
