Marianna Measells went to her doctor for a hysterectomy, but she left with a perforated bowel. Measells has now filed a medical malpractice suit against Dr. Dennis Black, on May 12 in the Jefferson County District Court.
According to her suit, on Nov. 27, 2006, she underwent a vaginal hysterectomy performed by Dr. Black. Measells alleges that Dr. Black failed to assess her for any type of bowel injury or to put the bowel back after the surgery, causing Measells to suffer from a perforated bowel, which was left untreated.
"Due to Defendant's negligence, Plaintiff suffered immense pain and was required to undergo additional medical treatment," the suit says.
The suit alleges Dr. Black was negligent in the following ways:
"The defendant violated his lawful duties to provide the medical care that would have been provided by physicians of ordinary prudence under the same or similar circumstances," the suit says.
Measells is suing for past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, lost earnings, impairment and disfigurement.
She is requesting a trial by jury and is represented by attorney Trenton Bond of the Reaud, Morgan & Quinn law firm.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th Judicial District, has been assigned to the case.
