Mary Bourne vs. Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

A local woman is alleging Wal-Mart had a duty to warn her not to step into unattended shopping baskets left on the ground. While shopping at the Dowlen Road Wal-Mart with her daughter, Mary Bourne stepped into a shopping basket and fell to the ground. Bourne claims Wal-Mart negligently failed to "instruct" her on how to "avoid the unexpected hazard."

She filed suit against the mega retailer and one of its former assistant managers, Renee Berryhill and is suing for past and future medical expenses, lost earnings, mental anguish, impairment and disfigurement, plus attorneys' fees.

Beth Golding et al vs. Chevron USA

A widow has filed a benzene suit against Chevron USA, convinced the company who wrote her husband's paychecks also killed him.

The suit accuses Chevron of acting with gross negligence and malice, which entitles the Golding family to recover exemplary and punitive damages for their benefactor's death.

Blue Tee Corp. vs. Entergy Texas Inc.

A Port Arthur business, Standard Alloys & Manufacturing Co., has filed suit against Entergy, claiming the power company negligently ignored a faulty transformer, which sparked and caused a fire to spread throughout the plaintiff's foundry. Standard Alloy, owned by the New York based Blue Tee Corp. is seeking economic damages.

John Peddy vs. K.T. Foods

Texas Asphalt Sealing has filed suit against K.T. Foods, claiming the company has only paid half of what it owes Texas Asphalt for a parking lot job. Texas Asphalt is owned by John Peddy, a Groves resident. K.T. Foods is located in Port Arthur.

The two companies entered into an agreement on March 7, 2008, whereby Texas Asphalt agreed to scrape and remove existing material from K.T. Food's parking area for $50,000, plus an additional $2,000 for the extra work for covering the culvert and patching holes.

Texas Asphalt is suing for the unpaid balance of the contract and for attorneys' fees.

Randell Parquet Jr. ANF Randell Parquet III vs. Cinemark USA Inc. et al

While seeing a movie at the Tinseltown theaters, Randell Parquet III slipped and fell in the men's restroom. Randell Parquet Jr., has now filed a personal injury suit against the theater and its manager on behalf of his minor son.

The suit alleges that as a result of the slippery floor, Parquet fell and suffered "severe personal injuries," including permanent bodily impairment, physical disfigurement, past and future physical pain and mental anguish and past and future medical expenses.

The plaintiff is seeking compensatory damages, interest, court costs and other relief.

Deborah Parker vs. Target Corp.

Most mothers tell their children to look both ways. Perhaps one of the few kids who never received the alerting advice, a Beaumont woman is alleging it was Target's duty to "warn" her to watch out for "incoming shopping carts." Two years ago, Deborah Parker claims she was struck from behind by a row of shopping carts in front of the West End Target while getting her own cart. Seeking monetary compensation for her mental anguish and physical injuries, Parker filed suit against Target.

Herman Hinson et al vs. Armando Contreras

Hinson has filed an automobile collision suit on behalf of his minor daughter, who was a passenger in a vehicle when Contreras allegedly negligently failed to control his vehicle and collided with the plaintiff's vehicle. The incident occurred on June 2, 2006. The plaintiff is suing for past and future pain, mental anguish, medical expenses, lost earnings and impairment.

Floyd W. Harmon vs. Capitol Mutual Fire Insurance Co.

The plaintiff has filed suit against the insurance company, alleging the defendant refused to pay at least a portion of the plaintiff's Hurricane Rita claim. The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to give a reason for its inadequate settlement, conduct a reasonable investigation and honor its contractual obligations. The plaintiff further alleges the defendant committed several Texas Insurance Code and DTPA violations.

The plaintiff is suing for actual and consequential damages, plus attorneys' fees.

The plaintiff has filed suit against the insurance company and two of its claims adjusters, alleging the defendants refused to pay at least a portion of the plaintiff's Hurricane Rita claim. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to give a reason for its inadequate settlement, conduct a reasonable investigation and honor their contractual obligations. The plaintiff further alleges the defendants committed several Texas Insurance Code and DTPA violations.

The plaintiff is suing for actual and consequential damages, plus attorneys' fees.

Rudolph Bohanon vs. Capitol Mutual Fire Insurance Co. et al

The plaintiff has filed suit against the insurance company and two of its claims adjusters, alleging the defendants refused to pay at least a portion of the plaintiff's Hurricane Rita claim. Bohanon was also the plaintiff named in a suit filed on the same days as this suit against State Farm. The suits allege the same complaint, but different property.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to give a reason for its inadequate settlement, conduct a reasonable investigation and honor their contractual obligations. The plaintiff further alleges the defendants committed several Texas Insurance Code and DTPA violations.

The plaintiff is suing for actual and consequential damages, plus attorneys' fees.

Bohanon gets around. This is the third Hurricane Rita suit filed on his behalf on the same day. This suit is also against Capitol.

A popular man in the Jefferson County Clerk's office, Bohanon is back with his fifth Hurricane Rita suit.

The plaintiff has filed suit against the insurance company and two of its claims adjusters, alleging the defendants refused to pay at least a portion of the plaintiff's Hurricane Rita claim. The suits allege the same complaint, but different property.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to give a reason for its inadequate settlement, conduct a reasonable investigation and honor their contractual obligations. The plaintiff further alleges the defendants committed several Texas Insurance Code and DTPA violations.

The statutory of limitations for filing Rita suits supposedly elapsed in October 2007.

The plaintiff is suing for actual and consequential damages, plus attorneys' fees.

Bringing his total to six, Bonanon has filed another Hurricane Rita suit against State Farm.

Scott Lisenby et al vs. city of Beaumont et al

A band of Beaumont's finest are asking that a Jefferson County Judge to issue a writ of mandamus and enter an order mandating that the Beaumont Civil Service Commission certify a Beaumont Police Department Sergeant Eligibility List.

Lita Roberts vs. Tom Nguyen

PA - Brandon Monk, J - Bob Wortham

Not only did a pair of contractors make of with a Port Arthur woman's DVD player, they allegedly never even finished the job they were paid to do. Lita Roberts filed suit against Tom Nguyen, Le Thuy-Nga and their business, United Construction Services June 2 in the Jefferson County District Court, claiming UCS left her home a in shambles.

Roberts is suing for actual and economic damages under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act.

Diane Kelly vs. Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital

PA - Matthew Matheny. J - Gary Sanderson

A Christus St. Elizabeth employee is suing the hospital for punitive damages, claiming the care giver never trained her on how to walk across a rug without falling. Diane Kelly also claims Christus failed to warn her about the rug's "dangerous condition."

Carroll Jones vs. Elizabeth Segler

Rather than resign himself to defeat, a fading Port Arthur councilman has filed suit in hopes a local court will reinstate 35 suspect ballots and declare him victorious � proving that no matter how high or low the office, no politician likes to say goodbye. District Councilman Carroll "Cal" Jones lost his seat in the May 10th elections to Elizabeth Jones by a vote of 191 votes to 205 � coming up just 15 votes shy of victory.

Jones immediately demanded a recount, delaying Segler's swearing in ceremony, but gave up on that course of action and instead pursued a legal recourse, demanding 35 discarded ballots be reinstated.
