This Just In: Recent civil suits filed in Jefferson County District Courts

  • Clint Guidry vs. C&G Boats et al

    PA – Courtlan Maddux, J – Bob Wortham

    Clint Guidry, a Louisiana resident, was working as a seaman aboard the M/V Ms Mary when he became injured.

    Guidry filed suit against C&G Boats Inc., C&G Marine Service Inc., MNM Boats Inc. and Freeport-McMoran Energy LLC, alleging the defendants failed to furnish him a safe place to work and a seaworthy vessel.

    The plaintiff claims he was a healthy, able-bodied working man before the incident and is seeking compensation for past and future medical expenses, loss of earnings and loss of earning capacity "clearly in excess of the sum of $75,000."

  • Kevin Roach vs. City of Beaumont

    PA – Jonathan Juhan, J – Milton Shuffield

    On July 10, 2006, the plaintiff was traveling down Concord street in Beaumont, when "horrible road conditions caused plaintiff to lose control of his vehicle" and slam head on into another vehicle. The plaintiff faults the city for negligently failing to maintain its roadways.

    He is suing for past and future medical expenses, lost earnings, physical impairment and mental anguish, plus actual damages and court costs.

  • Jessie Freeman vs. David Thomas

    PA – Bob Monk, J – Gary Sanderson

    On Oct. 30, 2007, the plaintiff was driving southbound on Pine in Beaumont when the defendant rear-ended him. The plaintiff alleges the defendant negligently failed to control his vehicle and is suing for past and future medical expenses, lost earnings, physical impairment and mental anguish, plus actual damages and court costs.

    Denise Martin vs. Michael Dye

    PA – James Chesnutt II, J – Milton Shuffield

    On July 27, 2006, the plaintiff was a passenger in a vehicle, which was rear-ended by the defendant. The plaintiff alleges the defendant negligently failed to control his vehicle and is suing for past and future medical expenses, lost earnings, physical impairment and mental anguish, plus actual damages and court costs.

  • Carl Parker vs. Carmike Cinemas Inc.

    PA – Richard Lewis, J – Donald Floyd

    A former state senator is suing the business next door to his for lowering the market value of his property.

    Port Arthur attorney Carl A. Parker is suing Carmike Cinemas Inc. for exemplary damages for not mowing its grass and ultimately helping to create a "trashy neighborhood."

    He is also seeking a permanent injunction to force Carmike Cinemas to maintain its property.

  • Ricky Lee et al vs. Cash Rewards Inc. et al

    PA – Peter Doyle, J – Donald Floyd

    Orange County residents Ricky Lee and Tammie Weatherford made a trip to Energy Country Ford in Port Arthur to purchase a new vehicle and $1,500 cash back.

    After four years and still no cash reward, the couple has filed suit against Cash Rewards Inc. and its third-party administrator Resolve Corp. alleging the cash back promise was a fraud.

    Lee and Weatherford are seeking statutory damages, exemplary damages, attorneys' fees, interest, cost and other relief.

  • Chase Matt vs. Judith Gerber

    PA – Tommy Yeates, J – Gary Sanderson

    The plaintiff is suing the defendant for an automobile collision that occurred on Feb. 11 in Hardin County. The plaintiff claims he was stopped in the center turn lane when the defendant rear-ended him.

    The plaintiff alleges the defendant negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and is suing for past and future medical expenses, lost earnings, physical impairment and mental anguish, plus actual damages and court costs.

  • Donald Hester vs. Beaumont Yacht Club

    PA – Justin Sanderson, J – Donald Floyd

    A local resident, Donald Hester, has filed suit against the Beaumont Yacht Club, claiming that a blatant "dangerous condition" exists where club patrons walk. He is suing for economic damages.
