Woman sues Beaumont church after auto collision

A Beaumont woman is suing a local church for an automobile collision that occurred more than two years ago.

Kesha Lee filed her suit against East Mount Olive Baptist Church on Sept. 10 in Jefferson County District Court. The suit also names Tramail Cane as a defendant.

Court papers show that on Sept. 11, 2006, Lee was stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Martin Luther King and Park streets in Beaumont, when Cane, while in the employment of Mount Olive Church, struck her vehicle.

The suit does not describe how the collision occurred, but faults Cane for negligently failing to keep a proper lookout and the church for entrusting him with a company vehicle.

"At the time of the accident Cane was operating defendant church's vehicle," the suit says.

"Defendant Cane was, at all material times hereto, in the course and scope of his employment relationship with defendant and was operating the van with the permission of defendant."

Lee is suing for past and future mental anguish, disfigurement impairment and medical expenses.

She is requesting a trial by jury and is represented by attorney Charlton P. Hornsby.

The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th Judicial District.
