Groves worker sues for unpaid workers' comp claim

A Groves man has filed suit against American Zurich Insurance Co., alleging he was not paid for a workers' compensation claim he filed.

While working at M & I Electric Industries in Jefferson County on Nov. 10, 2005, Paul Pruitt was injured, according to the complaint filed Jan. 2 in Jefferson County District Court.

At the time of Pruitt's injury, M & I Electric had a workers' compensation policy under American Zurich Insurance Company, the suit states.

However, American Zurich Insurance Company "failed and refused to conduct a reasonable investigation of Plaintiff's workers compensation claim," the suit states.

Pruitt is seeking unspecified actual, treble and punitive damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney's fees, costs and other relief the court deems just.

H.P. Wright of Wright and Pitre in Port Neches will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham of the 58th District Court.
