A Jefferson County couple expected to have more than $21,000 worth of work on their damaged property to be finished within six months. Instead, Craig and Terrelle Broussard allege work on their real estate has not even begun.
The Broussards hired Global International Construction to repair and replace their damaged property at 5416 Prospect St. in Port Arthur within six months of signing a mechanic's lien, the suit filed Jan. 16 in Jefferson County District Court states.
Even though Global has been paid $21,200 for the work, it has yet to perform it, according to the complaint.
Global engaged in deceptive trade practices by breaching the implied warranty of constructing the property in a good and workmanlike manner, the Broussards allege.
"Defendants coerced the Plaintiffs into signing the contract with the understanding that the work would be done and completed within six months; however, it is Plaintiffs' beliefs that Defendant had no intention of doing the work at all," the suit states.
The Broussards are seeking economic damages within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, attorney's fees, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court finds just.
Allen Parker of The Parker Law Firm in Port Arthur will be representing them.
The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd of the 172nd District Court.
