This Just In: Recent civil suits filed in Jefferson County District Courts

Feb. 17

  • Karintha Broussard vs. BG Foods Inc (McDonalds)

    PA - Tom Oxford, J - Gary Sanderson

    The plaintiff was somehow injured while working around a pallet of boxes. The suit does not state how or where the plaintiff's was injured.

    The plaintiff is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost earnings, impairment and medical expenses, plus all court costs.

  • Elmer Castillo vs. Floyd & Beasley Transfer Co.

    PA - James Lassiter III, J - Bob Wortham

    On July 16, 2007, the plaintiff was in an automobile collision with one of the corporate defendant's truck drivers.

    The plaintiff claims he was traveling on I-10 when he was forced to slow down to avoid a collision when he was rear-ended by the defendant driver.

    The plaintiff alleges the defendant driver negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost wages, medical expenses and impairment.

    In September 2005 the plaintiff purchased a Port Arthur property from the defendant. However, the defendant has allegedly refused to transfer the sole deed to her name.

    She is seeking actual and consequential damages.

  • Isidro Vega vs. Mike Hooks Inc. and M/V Missouri Edge

    PA - Michael Pierce, J - Donald Floyd

    Isidro Vega has filed suit against Mike Hooks Inc. and M/V Missouri Edge, alleging he was injured when the boat capsized.

    Vega was aboard the M/V Missouri Edge, which was owned by Mike Hooks, on Aug. 11, 2007, when he slipped, fell and injured his back, legs, hips and groin.

    The boat, which was deployed on the navigable waters alongside Alligator, La., capsized, the suit states.

    The plaintiff is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost earnings, impairment and medical expenses, plus all court costs.

  • Amy Keys vs. Majors La Vie (McDonald's)

    PA - Trenton Bond, J - Donald Floyd

    A Jefferson County woman claims she was injured after she slipped on a puddle of water in McDonald's.

    On July 17, Amy Nicole Keys was shopping inside the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 4999 Twin City Highway and stopped at the McDonald's located inside the store.

    While inside the fast food restaurant, Keys slipped in a puddle of water on the floor and fell, the suit states.

    Because of the fall, Keys claims she sustained severe physical pain and mental anguish and incurred medical expenses.

  • Deliiala Lemon vs. Dr. Leroy Foster Jr. et al

    PA - Joseph Onwuteaka, J - Milton Shuffield

    Five heirs of a deceased man have filed suit against Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital and one of its doctors, alleging that because of the caregiver's negligence the man died from a stab wound in the back.

    Deliiala Camille Lemon, Kaliliala Chamille Lemon, Kristian Germane Lemon, Lashudrea Noel Lemon and Bobby Ward Rideaux claim Thorne Covair Lemon was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth on March 6, 2007, for a stab wound in his back.

    Dr. Leroy Paul Foster Jr. was the physician who treated Lemon.

    However, the suit alleges that Lemon died on the same day because of the doctor's and hospital's negligence.

    Because of Lemon's death, the plaintiffs claim they experienced physical pain, suffering and mental anguish.

  • Maersch and Lurlene Carter vs. Entergy Texas Inc.

    PA - Paul Ferguson Jr., J - Donald Floyd

    A Hardin County couple has filed suit against Entergy Texas, alleging the man received a serious electrical shock from an unsecure power source.

    Maersch Gene and Lurlene Carter claim that on Sept. 17 Maersch Gene Carter was attempting to move debris from the road in front of his driveway for access after Hurricane Ike hit the area.

    They allege Entergy Texas had restored power to the neighborhood but had failed to properly secure a power source and had left it on the ground instead.

    As a result, the power source charged the area and caused severe burns to Carter, the suit states.

    Because of the incident, Carter claims he has incurred medical expenses and experienced physical pain, mental anguish, physical impairment and physical disfigurement.

  • Templeton Salter vs. Global Geophysical Services Inc.

    PA - Kurt Arnold, J - Gary Sanderson

    A Florida man has filed suit against Global Geophysical Services, alleging he was injured while working on a ship for the company.

    Templeton Salter was working aboard the Global Scout on Aug. 22 when he tore his rotator cuff after attempting to retrieve an oil dipstick in the ship's engine room.

    According to the complaint, Salter sustained physical pain, mental anguish, physical impairment, discomfort, mental anguish and distress as a result of his injuries.

    He also suffered a loss of earnings and incurred medical expenses, he claims.

  • Quincey Chatman vs. Serena Foster

    PA - Matthew Matheny, J - Bob Wortham

    On May 25, 2008, the plaintiff was in an automobile collision with the defendant. The suit does not state where or when the incident occurred.

    The plaintiff alleges the defendant driver negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost wages, medical expenses and impairment.

  • Sherline Ifield vs. Jeffery Jones

    PA - Langston Adams, J - Bob Wortham

    Individually and on behalf of her minor children, the plaintiff is suing the defendant for causing an automobile collision on Oct. 7.

    The plaintiff was stopped in traffic while traveling on U.S. Hwy. 83 when the defendant rear-ended her.

    The plaintiff alleges the defendant driver negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost wages, medical expenses and impairment.

    On Feb. 19, 2007, the plaintiff was in an automobile collision with the defendant at the intersection of Spurlock and Price. The suit does not state how the incident occurred.

    The plaintiff alleges the defendant driver negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost wages, medical expenses and impairment.
