Suit alleges construction company committed fraud

A Texas business has filed suit against a construction company and its managing partner, alleging the company stole its money and failed to perform work on an office building.

Regional Professional Building claims it hired Margon Construction to perform improvements on its building in Jefferson County.

However, Margon failed to pay its subcontractors and did not complete work on the project, according to the complaint filed March 24 in Jefferson County District Court.

In addition, Marin Gonzalez, a managing partner of Margon, billed Regional for a building permit that he never obtained and for electrical, plumbing and sprinkler work that was never completed, the suit states.

Because Regional paid the bills, it says Gonzalez and Margon committed fraud.

It also claims breach of contract against the company and the man.

Regional is seeking unspecified actual and punitive damages, plus attorneys' fees, costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief to which it may be entitled.

Karwin B. Stone of Moore Landrey in Beaumont will be representing it.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: B183-628.
