A Jefferson County woman has filed suit against United Parcel Service and one of its employees, alleging she suffered severe pain after a UPS van collided with her vehicle.
Ella Hill says she was driving a Thomas SAF-T Liner Bus west on Comstock Road in Beaumont on June 18, 2007, when Elgin Charles Lastrape III, who was driving east on the same road in a GMC van owned by UPS, entered her lane and hit her.
Because of the collision, Hill suffered mental anguish, lost wages and her earning capacity, incurred medical expenses and lost consortium, according to the suit filed April 21 in Jefferson County District Court. She also suffered physical impairment and disfigurement, the suit states.
Hill says Lastrape was negligent by failing to stay in a single lane, by failing to maintain control of his vehicle, by driving too fast, by failing to reduce his speed, by failing to exercise due care, by failing to keep a proper lookout and by failing to pay full attention.
She is seeking a judgment for unspecified damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.
