Woman seeks damages over auto collision

A Jefferson County woman wants a Hardin man and the Houston corporation for which he works to pay her damages after she was injured in an accident.

Sylvia Morris filed a complaint May 11 in Jefferson County District Court against IESI Corporation and its employee, Keith Allen Haynes.

Morris says she was driving in the 4300 block of Eastex Freeway in Beaumont on Feb. 1, 2008, when Haynes struck the vehicle she was operating. At the time of the collision, Haynes was working for IESI.

Because of the accident, Morris incurred medical expenses and experienced physical pain, suffering, mental anguish and physical impairment, the suit states.

Haynes was guilty of failing to exercise due care, failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to maintain proper control and failing to swerve to avoid a collision, according to the complaint. He also failed to timely apply his brakes, failed to sound his horn to warn of his approach, failed to yield the right-of-way and failed to use evasive action.

Morris is seeking unspecified damages, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief to which she may be entitled.

Jeffrey C. Chilton of Packard, Packard and LaPray in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: E184-028.
