Woman sues hospital for tripping on shower drain cap

While taking a shower at Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital, Shonta Hall tripped and fell when she stepped on the drain cap.

Claiming the hospital failed to provide her with a safe place to shower, Hall filed suit against Baptist Hospitals on May 13 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the suit, on May 12, 2007, Hall was taking a shower at Baptist Beaumont "when she stepped on the drain cap and slid."

Hall alleges she suffered "bodily injury as a direct result" of the fall she suffered at the hands of the "dangerous condition of the shower."

"Defendant negligently allowed the drain cap to remain unsecure and failed to maintain its shower," the suit states. "Defendant should have know of the dangerous condition and the likelihood of someone being injured."

Hall is suing for past and future medical expenses, pain and mental anguish.

She is represented by attorney Roger Merrill of the Merrill & Associates law firm.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th Judicial District.
