Latest hurricane-related insurance suits filed in Jefferson County

A total of 14 new lawsuits against insurance companies regarding hurricane damage claims were filed in Jefferson County District Court during the week of July 6 through July 10.

The following complaints were filed relating to Hurricane Ike:

  • Faye Boersman of 3340 Graves Ave. in Groves alleges Texas Farmers Insurance Company denied her claim for water damages she made after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Boersman says she left her home on June 11 and returned on June 14 when she stepped in water. She called a plumber to determine the cause of the leak, and he said he thought the water was coming from an overflow pan in an air conditioning unit, according to the complaint. Still, Texas Farmers Insurance Company denied Boersman claim for water damages. Boersman is represented by E. Hart Green of Weller, Green, Toups and Terrell in Beaumont.   • Cornelia Butler of 1131 Stewart St. in Beaumont alleges Farmers Insurance Exchange denied her claim for roof, water, wind, contents and structural damages caused to her home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Michael R. Ramsey and Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont and J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston will be representing her.   • Mary Carrier of 765 Campus in Beaumont alleges Fire Insurance Exchange denied their claim for water, wind and contents damages caused to her home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. J.   • Carson H. Inc, doing business as Carson Medical Equipment, of 2515 Calder St. in Beaumont alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied his claim for roof, structural, wind, water, electrical, alarm system and contents damages caused to his property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned IMS Catastrophe Services Inc. and adjusters Jason Male and Matthew Lusk to investigate. Carson Medical Equipment will be represented by Michael R. Ramsey and Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont and by J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston.   • Nathaniel and Karen Collins of 2239 10th St. in Port Arthur allege Fire Insurance Exchange denied their claim for roof, water, wind and structural damages caused to their home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13.   • Barty Jones of 2939 Graves Ave. in Groves alleges Fire Insurance Exchange denied his claim for dwelling, contents and structural damages caused to his property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Jones is represented by Rocky Lawdermilk of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: B184-474.

  • Mahesh Makecha of Jefferson County alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association failed to make a sufficient payment for his claim for damages caused to his property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Dax O. Faubus and Ian R. Beliveaux of Faubus and Scarborough in Houston will be representing him. Jefferson County District Court case number: D184-461.

  • Stella and Lawrence McCartney of 2460 Delaware in Beaumont alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied their claim for roof, foundation, water, wind and contents damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned Gab Robins North America to investigate, according to the complaint. Michael R. Ramsey and Gregory F.   • Clement and Mary Joyce Mohr of 2251 Central Drive in Beaumont allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied their claim for roof, water, wind, foundation and contents damages caused to their home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied their claim after its Vice President for Claims Reggie Warren assigned IMS Catastrophe Services and adjuster Donald Keech to investigate. The Mohrs are represented by Michael R.   • Emily Mott of 480 Fletcher St. in Beaumont alleges Voyager Indemnity Insurance Company did not properly pay her claim for damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. E. Hart Green of Weller, Green, Toups and Terrell in Beaumont will be representing her. Jefferson County District Court case number: D184-479.

  • Jose Pena of Jefferson County alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association underpaid his claim for damages caused to his home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Pena is represented by Clint Brasher and Joe Muckleroy of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D184-468.

  • Anh Nguyet Pham of 4949 Third St. in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied his claim for damages caused to his property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after Pham's insurance agent, defendant Tuam H. Nguyen, failed to procure windstorm, hurricane and hail coverage on his home, even though it was represented that Pham had the coverage, according to the complaint. Pham is represented by Scott Renick of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D184-450.

  • Mable Styner of 3525 S. Forth St. in Beaumont alleges Fire Insurance Exchange denied his claim for roof, water, wind and structural damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. J.
