Greasy spot leads to suit against retailer

Claiming that Wal-Mart negligently allowed grease to accumulate on the floor, Janet Peeples has filed suit against the mega-retailer for a slip and fall incident that occurred two years ago.

Peeples, along with her husband, filed the suit July 21 in Orange County District Court.

According to the suit, on July 22, 2007, the plaintiff was shopping at the Wal-Mart in Orange when she slipped and fell on some grease near the checkout aisle.

"In such fall, Peeples sustained severe injuries to her back and neck," the suit states. "The defendant owed a duty to plaintiff and other patrons to maintain the premises in a reasonably safe condition."

She is suing for past and future mental anguish, impairment, lost earnings and pain, plus attorney's fees.

Peeples is represented by attorney Sandee Hart.

The case has been assigned to Judge Dennis powell, 163rd District Court.
