Latest hurricane-related insurance suits filed in Jefferson County


A total of seven new lawsuits relating to hurricane damage claims were filed against insurance companies in Jefferson County District Court during the week of July 27 through July 31.

The following complaints were filed:

  • Willie Mae Douglas of 4000 Third St. in Port Arthur alleges National Lloyds Insurance Company denied her claim for damages after Hurricanes Rita, Humberto and Ike. Douglas is represented by Rocky Lawdermilk of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D184-549.

  • Lou Fairchild Jr. and Paula Fairchild of 7214 S. Gulfway Drive in Sabine Pass allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied their claim for roof, water, wind and structural damages caused to their home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. The Fairchilds are represented by Lance P. Bradley of McPherson, Hughes, Bradley, Wimberley, Steele and Chatelain in Port Arthur. Jefferson County District Court case number: E184-559.

  • Scott and Janet Floyd of 17885 Highway 105 in Sour Lake allege Texas Fair Plain Association denied their claim for roof, water, wind, structural and contents damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Co-defendant Compass Adjusting Services misrepresented to the Floyds that their property was not covered under the policy, according to the complaint. The Floyds are represented by Matthew C. Matheny of Provost and Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: B184-583.

  • Juan Gonzales of 5233 Lewis Drive in Port Arthur alleges Fire Insurance Exchange denied his claim for dwelling and contents damages caused to his property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Gonzales is represented by Rocky Lawdermilk of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: A184-578.

  • Kathy Kennedy of 4690 Corkwood Lane in Beaumont alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied her claim for roof, water, wind, contents and structural damages caused to her home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned IMS Catastrophe Services and adjusters William Morris and Steven Steckler to investigate. Kennedy is represented by Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D184-600.

  • William and Kristina Mitchell of 3425 French Road in Beaumont allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied their claim for wind, water and structural damages caused to their home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned IMS Catastrophe Services and adjuster Glen Scaggs to investigate. The Mitchells are represented by Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D184-599.

  • Vernice Monroe of 4825 Cornell Drive in Beaumont alleges her insurance agent, Charles DeBlanc, failed to procure wind insurance for her home. When Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, Monroe thought she had windstorm insurance because she alleges she paid for it, but did not. In addition to DeBlanc, the insurance company he worked for -- Farmers Insurance Company -- is named as a defendant. Jefferson County District Court case number: D184-545.

  • Linda Smith of 1926 DeQueen Blvd. in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied her claim for dwelling and contents damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Smith is represented by Rocky Lawdermilk of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D184-579.
