  • Ann Bankston vs. Texas Windstorm Insurance Association et al

    The plaintiff is suing the insurance company and several of its agents for denying at least a portion of the plaintiff's Hurricane Ike policy claim.

  • Charlette Champagne vs. Casa Ole

    A Nederland woman claims she broke her wrist after falling on the floor of a Mexican restaurant.

    Champagne says she was eating at the Casa Ole located at 4801 Twin City Highway in Port Arthur with her husband on May 10 when she fell on water.

    "Unknown to Mrs. Champagne, the employees mopped the aisle between her table and the front of the store," the suit states. "No warning signs were posted, and due to the lighting and the color of the floor, Mrs. Champagne was unable to see the water."

    In addition to a severely broken left wrist, Champagne claims she has endured anxiety, pain and illness, incurred medical costs and experienced physical pain and suffering. According to the complaint, she also suffered mental anguish, physical impairment, loss of earnings, loss of consortium and disfigurement.

  • Carol Guillory et al vs. Clairmont Beaumont et al

    The administratrix of the estate of a deceased woman says the woman died at the hands of a Harbor Hospice nurse who allegedly abused her and caused her more than 50 skin tears.

    Carolyn Guillory claims Willie Lorene Williams was living at defendant Clairmont Beaumont and began receiving care from co-defendant Harbor Hospice on Aug. 1, 2007, after she was diagnosed with brain cancer.

    "On or about Nov. 23, 2007, Ms. Williams' children were notified that she had 'some places on her arm;' however, shortly after the initial contact, another phone call was made wherein the family was informed that 'the lady from Harbor Hospice has hurt your mother,'" the suit filed Aug. 12 in Jefferson County District Court states.

    According to the complaint, Williams' skin had numerous tears, and Clairmont nurses discovered the woman, her dress, sheets, covers and pillow covered in blood.

    A few days later, Williams was transferred to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, where an exam revealed she had more than 50 skin tears, the complaint says.

    Seventeen days after the initial incident, Williams died. The family is seeking wrongful death damages.

  • Linda Martinez vs. Texas State University System et al

    PA - Ryan White, J - Donald Floyd

    A Port Arthur woman says she suffered extensive injuries after she fell while dropping her granddaughter off at a child care center.

    Martinez says she was dropping her granddaughter off at a child care center at the defendants' premises on Aug. 22, 2007.

    "While attempting to exit the premises, the Plaintiff slipped and fell onto the floor," the suit states.

    Because of her fall, Martinez suffered the loss of affection, solace, comfort, companionship, society, assistance and sexual relations with her husband, the complaint says. She also suffered and will continue to suffer physical pain, mental anguish, physical impairment, loss of wages and loss of earning capacity and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.

  • Jami Davis vs. Jennifer Dean

    On Oct. 22, 2008, the plaintiff was traveling westbound on Cardinal Drive when the plaintiff lost control over her vehicle and rear-ended the plaintiff.

    The plaintiff alleges the defendant driver negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and is suing for past and future mental anguish, pain, impairment, lost wages and medical expenses, plus attorney's fees.

  • Teri Segura vs. Huntsman Petrochemical Corp.

    A Jefferson County woman is claiming that chemical emissions near the schools she attended have caused her develop brain cancer.

    According to the complaint, Teri N. Segura's problems began after she was exposed to butadiene while attending elementary and middle schools in Groves. She attended Port Neches-Groves High School from 1990 until 1994, where she claims she also breathed in the carcinogen.

    "Such butadiene exposure was a producing and a proximate cause of her brain tumor condition," the suit states. "Teri N. Segura would show that her brain tumor has had a devastating effect on her life and has inflicted upon her great pain and suffering, both mental and physical, as well as substantial physical and mental impairment and disfigurement. She required surgery to remove the bulk of the tumor, which resulted in left-sided paralysis for approximately a year thereafter. She has suffered from epilepsy since then."
