A woman has filed a lawsuit against Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Kellermeyer Building Services, alleging she was seriously injured after she fell while walking through Sears.
Patricia Nobles claims she was working at Sears in the Parkdale Mall in Beaumont and was walking through the children's department when she slipped and fell on a wet floor on Sept. 6, 2007.
Kellermeyer Building Services had provided housekeeping services and left the floor wet after mopping the area, according to the complaint filed Aug. 27 in Jefferson County District Court.
However, Kellermeyer employees failed to place "Wet floor" signs after mopping, the suit states.
Because of her fall, Nobles incurred medical costs, lost earnings and experienced physical impairment, physical pain, mental anguish and disfigurement, the complaint says.
She blames Kellermeyer for negligently failing to keep the premises in a safe condition and for failing to eliminate the risk of people slipping on the floor.
Nobles is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus pre-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.
She will be represented by Jonathan C. Juhan of Beaumont.
The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
