A man has filed suit against a lumber store, saying he cut his hand on a piece of glass after employees failed to properly wrap it up.
Joseph Gonzalez claims he was shopping at defendant Sutherlands Lumber on College Street in Beaumont on Nov. 27, 2007, where he purchased a piece of glass that he had ordered.
An employee cut the glass for Gonzalez but failed to properly wrap and secure the piece of glass, causing Gonzalez to be cut by it, according to the complaint filed Sept. 24 in Jefferson County District Court.
Because of the incident, Gonzalez incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain, suffering, impairment, mental anguish and disfigurement and lost his earnings and earning capacity, the suit states.
Sutherland's employee disregarded his duty of care when providing the glass to Gonzalez without the proper wrapping, the suit states.

In his complaint, Gonzalez accuses Sutherland of negligent hiring, supervision and management.
Gonzalez is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which he may be entitled.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
