Father sues after daughter bitten by dog

The father of a 4-year-old girl claims his daughter sustained serious injuries to her face after a dog attacked her.

Kevin O'Connor filed a lawsuit Jan. 8 in Jefferson County District Court on behalf of his daughter, Hailyn O'Connor, against Jennifer Benge.

O'Connor claims his daughter visited Benge on Nov. 26 when Benge's dog attacked Hailyn.

In addition to the girl's facial injuries, she suffered physical pain, mental anguish, physical impairment, disfigurement and scarring because of the incident, according to the complaint.

O'Connor says he has incurred medical costs to pay for his daughter's medical bills.

Benge negligently failed to secure her dog, the suit states.

O'Connor seeks an unspecified judgment, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Tommy L. Yeates of Moore Landrey in Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: A185-673.
