Employee's fall in parking lot leads to suit against Beaumont Health Care

A Jefferson County woman claims she sustained injuries after falling in her employer's parking lot.

Bertha Jackson filed a lawsuit Jan. 25 in Jefferson County District Court against HSMTX/Lindbergh-Beaumont doing business as Beaumont Health Care Center.

Jackson claims she fell because Beaumont Health Care Center failed to maintain a safe parking lot, although she does not specify the reason for her fall.

"There was a condition in the parking lot of the premises which posed an unreasonable risk of harm," the suit states.

Jackson only alleges she received bodily injuries from her fall and says because Beaumont Health Care Center does not subscribe to Texas Workers' Compensation, she should be able to sue the company for actual damages.

Barrett Lindsay of Lindsay Law Firm in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: D185-787.
