A man claims he sustained physical pain and mental suffering after a driver collided with him then fled the scene.
James Edward Mathews filed suit Feb. 17 in Jefferson County District Court against Jeremiah S. Freeman.
Mathews claims he sustained personal injuries in a collision with Freeman on June 9, 2008.
In addition to his physical pain and mental suffering, Mathews incurred medical costs, lost earnings, suffered physical impairment and physical disfigurement and endured emotional distress, according to the complaint. He also lost his ability to enjoy life and experienced a diminished value of his vehicle, the suit states.
Mathews blames Freeman for causing the accident, saying he failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to yield the right-of-way, lacked proper control, failed to timely apply his brakes, left the scene of the accident and failed to stop and render aid.
Mathews seeks an unspecified judgment, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, property damage, costs and other relief the court deems just.
J. Trenton Bond of Reaud, Morgan and Quinn in Beaumont will be representing him.
The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
