Mom sues on behalf of boy injured in collision

The mother of a minor boy who was involved in a collision has filed suit against the driver who caused the accident.

Elida Echarrez claims her son, Miguel Resendez, was riding in a vehicle defendant Juan Briseno was driving at the intersection of Las Palmas Drive and Date Street in Port Arthur on March 3, 2008, which Briseno caused a collision.

Because of the accident, Resendez sustained bodily injuries and Echarrez sustained medical costs, according to the complaint filed March 5 in Jefferson County District Court.

In addition to Juan Briseno, Echarrez names Maria Esmeralda Briseno as a defendant because she negligently entrusted her vehicle to her son, the suit states.

Echarrez is seeking a judgment within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
