Suit claims racially hostile work environment caused Beaumont woman to seek medical treatment

Employed as a dispatcher at Pro Field Services for nine months, Kisha Ridley states she was subjected to racial discrimination, racial harassment and a racially hostile work environment after her white male supervisor made racial slurs.

The Beaumont resident believes Pro Field Services practices race discrimination and disparate treatment through its employment policies, procedures and actions and filed a lawsuit against the company on March 25 in the Beaumont Division of the Eastern District of Texas.

The plaintiff alleges her supervisors frequently used offensive language to put down, harass and intimidate members of racial minority groups. When the plaintiff complained of the harassment, she was told she "needed to get use to that kind of talk" and told that the violators were not going anywhere.

According to the complaint, after she complained, the supervisor began retaliating against her by slamming doors and staring her down.

The plaintiff claims that the treatment was so severe that she sought medical care. While under medical care, Ridley was terminated from her position, the suit states.

Ridley alleges the defendant's actions are in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for back pay, front pay, other job benefits, mental anguish, suffering, anxiety, stress and humiliation, ability to enjoy life, medical expenses, court costs, interest and attorney's fees.

Houston attorneys Mickey L. Washington and Cletus P. Ernster III of Washington and Ernster PLLC are representing the plaintiff. Jury trial requested.

U.S. District Judge Ron Clark is assigned to the litigation.
