Mom sues BISD over daughter's injury on bus

The mother of a minor girl has filed suit against the Beaumont Independent School District, alleging her daughter was injured when a school bus was involved in a collision.

Anissa Randle claims her daughter, Isha Latchinson, was a passenger on a BISD bus on May 8, 2008, when bus driver John Gautreaux, who was driving west on Simmons, failed to maintain a single lane of travel and collided with another vehicle.

Because of the collision, Latchinson suffered severe pain to her neck, chest, right shoulder and low back; experienced a diminished earning capacity; and sustained physical impairment, mental anguish and physical pain, according to the complaint filed April 15 in Jefferson County District Court.

In addition, Randle has incurred medical costs and will lose her daughter's contributions, the suit states.

She says the Beaumont Independent School District is responsible for any personal injuries people incur through the actions of its employees.

Randle is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus pre-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.

She will be represented by Jonathan C. Juhan of Beaumont.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: A186-557.
