GALVESTON - A Texas City man is suing a Santa Fe roofer and his business over repairs which reportedly failed to secure windstorm certification.
Lawrence E. Schumacher Sr.'s suit against John Lausch and Lausch Roofing & Sheet Metal Works LLC, filed April 14 in Galveston County District Court, explains that both parties entered into a contract focusing on roofing work worth $13,760.
The agreement called for the defendants to perform such tasks including shingle removal, felt application and ridge vent installation.
Schumacher argues that Lausch did not install the roof correctly, claiming it would fail a windstorm insurance inspection.
He claims the work allowed water to get into the house and damage his possessions.
"During the installation, one of the defendants' employees stepped through the ceiling of the home, and the repairs done were of very poor workmanship," the suit says.
The plaintiff states that "the defendants have failed to settle or resolve the controversy."
Consequently, he seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
Attorney Kerry Neves of Dickinson is representing the plaintiff, and Galveston County 405th District Court Judge Wayne Mallia is presiding over the case.
