A Jefferson County woman claims she sustained physical pain and mental suffering after a driver failed to yield the right-of-way and slammed into her vehicle.

Lutisia Harrington filed a lawsuit June 3 in Jefferson County District Court against Luis and Maribel Loza.

Harrington claims she drove in Jefferson County on Aug. 15, 2008, when the accident occurred after the defendants allegedly failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to yield the right-of-way, lacked proper control and failed to timely apply their brakes.

In addition to her physical pain and mental suffering, Harrington incurred medical costs; suffered physical impairment, physical disfigurement and emotional distress; and lost her ability to enjoy life, according to the complaint.

In her complaint, Harrington seeks a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.

Chris Portner of Reaud, Morgan and Quinn in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: B187-013.
