A Beaumont woman who was seven months pregnant at the time of a collision has filed suit against the driver she claims rear-ended her vehicle.
Mamie Guillory claims she was driving on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on June 9, 2008, when defendant Carol Allen, who was driving a vehicle insured by defendant Richard Wilson, failed to control her speed and slammed into the rear of Guillory's vehicle.
Because of the accident, Guillory incurred medical costs; suffered lower abdominal pain and anxiety because of the possibility of danger to her unborn baby; lost earnings and her earning capacity; and experienced physical impairment, physical pain and mental anguish, according to the complaint filed June 4 in Jefferson County District Court. In addition, she incurred property damages, the suit states.
Allen negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes to avoid the collision and failed to yield the right-of-way to a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction, the complaint says.
In her complaint, Guillory is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus pre-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.
Jonathan C. Juhan and Timothy Sawyer of Beaumont will be representing her.
The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
