Two women sue insurance company over Port Arthur wreck

Two Jefferson County residents claim their insurance company should pay them for injuries they sustained in a collision with an underinsured driver.

Sedonia Keal claims she was driving near the intersection of 32nd Street and Fourth Avenue in Port Arthur on June 17, 2008, when a vehicle driven by Kim Marie Charles crashed into her vehicle. At the time of the accident, co-plaintiff Velma Readoux was riding in Keal's vehicle.

Because of the accident, the plaintiffs sustained bodily injuries, incurred medical costs, lost wages and their earning capacity, experienced physical pain and mental anguish and endured physical impairment, according to the complaint filed June 18 in Jefferson County District Court.

When the accident occurred, Charles was an underinsured driver. The plaintiffs had an insurance policy through defendant Markel Insurance Company, and they claim the company should now pay the damages they incurred because of the collision.

The plaintiffs are seeking a judgment within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief to which they may be entitled.

John A. Carwile of The Law Offices of John A. Carwile in Houston will be representing the plaintiffs.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: B187-106.
