A Nederland man has filed suit against the driver who he claims struck his vehicle.
Mohammadali A. Sumar claims he sustained injuries in a collision that happened on Aug. 14 at the 8600 block of Ninth Avenue in Port Arthur when a vehicle operated by defendant Anthony Joseph Taylor and owned by defendant Virginia G. Salsgiver struck him.
Because of the accident, Sumar incurred medical costs; experienced physical pain, suffering, mental anguish and physical impairment; and lost wages, according to the complaint filed July 9 in Jefferson County District Court.
Sumar does not specify how the accident occurred, but does blame Taylor for driving too fast, for failing to exercise due care, for failing to keep a proper lookout and for failing to apply his brakes, among a number of other negligent acts.
He names Salsgiver as a defendant, saying she entrusted the vehicle to someone she knew would likely create a danger to others and entrused her vehicle to a dangerous driver, according to the complaint.
In his suit, Sumar is seeking unspecified damages, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.
Jeffrey C. Chilton of Packard Lapray in Beaumont will be representing him.
Jefferson County District Court case number: A187-246.
