A man wants the court to prevent a Beaumont building from being demolished.
Calvin Spikes filed a lawsuit Aug. 19 in Jefferson County District Court against the city of Beaumont.
Spikes alleges he bought property at 2610 Magnolia in Beaumont on May 22, 2000. Since then, the city has declared the property in a dilapidated condition and ordered its demolition, according to the complaint.
"Plaintiff request is to save the building from demolition and to remodel and renovate the building to minimum city codes," the suit states.
If the building does get demolished, Spikes claims he will suffer all of his investment and savings into the property.
In addition to his request that the court prevent the city from demolishing the building, Spikes seeks court costs and other relief the court deems just.
Spikes will be appearing pro se.
The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
