Mother, daughter claim injuries from collision

A Beaumont woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims failed to maintain an adequate lookout and struck her vehicle.

Veronica Thompson claims she was driving south in the 6400 block of Eastex Freeway in Beaumont at around 6:22 p.m. Jan. 28 when defendant Jessica Nicole Shipley failed to control her speed and struck Thompson's vehicle.

At the time of the collision, Veronica Thompson's daughter, Vabrielle Thompson, was riding with her.

Because of the collision, Vabrielle Thompson suffered injuries to her chest, neck, back and shoulder and experienced physical pain, mental anguish, disfigurement and physical impairment, according to the complaint filed Aug. 20 in Jefferson County District Court.

In addition, Vabrielle Thompson incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Shipley negligently failed to maintain proper control of her vehicle, failed to keep a proper lookout, drove inattentively and violated Texas laws, the complaint says.

In her suit, Veronica Thompson is seeking actual and exemplary damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Charlton P. Hornsby of Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: E187-718.
