Man sues over neck, back injuries from wreck

A Lumberton man claims he suffered injuries to his neck and back after a driver rear-ended him.

Raymond Vasquez filed a lawsuit Sept. 9 in Jefferson County District Court against Shannon Guilbeaux.

Vasquez claims he drove west on U.S. 69 in the right-hand lane in Beaumont on Jan. 27 at about 6:15 p.m. when he slowed for traffic. Suddenly, Guilbeaux rear-ended him, according to the complaint.

In addition to his injuries, Vasquez incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and suffering and sustained physical impairment because of the accident, the suit states. He also lost earnings and suffered mental anguish, the complaint says.

Vasquez blames Guilbeaux for causing the collision, saying Guilbeaux negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to maintain a reasonable distance between his vehicle and Vasquez's and failed to timely apply his brakes.

In his complaint, Vasquez seeks a judgment within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Brett S. Thomas of Roebuck, Thomas, Roebuck and Adams in Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
