Galveston women sue cable company over auto wreck

GALVESTON - Two Galveston County women have filed suit against State Farm, Comcast, and a Galveston man over an automobile accident in late September 2008.

Debra Carter and Betty Williams say they were involved in a collision with Eleazar Zarate, a Comcast employee, on Sept. 23, 2008, which left them with bodily injuries.

Their suit was filed Sept. 21 in Galveston County District Court.

Court papers claim Zarate did not carry insurance when he drove a Comcast-owned vehicle at the time of the alleged accident thus blame the cable company for hiring and retaining him.

Carter, the other motorist in the wreck, insists that State Farm, her carrier, was obligated to cover her and passenger Williams, but the insurance company has not agreed to settle the case with the plaintiffs, the original petition says.

Consequently, Carter and Williams seek no more than $250,000 in damages as well as a jury trial.

They are represented by Ivey Law Firm, P.C.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County 10th District Court Judge David Garner.
