Hospital files two suits over unpaid services

Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas has filed suit against two people it claims failed to pay more than $1,000 for services they received at the hospital.

Baptist Hospitals, doing business as Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont/Orange Hospitals, claims it provided defendants Kendrick L. Miller and Michael Lowe medical treatment, services and supplies, but has not received money for them.

"Invoices were generated by Plaintiff, and Defendant has refused to pay all as shown by the statement of account," the suits filed Sept. 29 in Jefferson County District Court states.

Miller owes the hospital $1,269 while Lowe owes it $1,526, according to the complaint.

In addition to the money it says it is owed, the hospital is seeking attorney's fees, pre-judgment interest at 6 percent per annum, costs, post-judgment interest at the highest legal rate and other relief the court deems just.

Jared Cole Johnson and Lucas William Gaskamp of Sullins, Johnston, Rohrbach and Magers in Houston will be representing the hospital in both suits.

The cases have been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, and Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
