A Houston woman blames a Port Neches facility for causing her to fall into an open manhole.
Vanessa Coleman filed a complaint Oct. 8 in Jefferson County District Court against Beaumont Recreation Association of Dupont, doing business as The BRAD Club.
As she walked on The BRAD Club's premises at 5100 N. Twin City in Nederland, Coleman fell in an uncovered manhole, according to the complaint.
Because of her fall, Coleman incurred medical costs and suffered extreme physical pain, suffering and mental anguish, the suit states.
Coleman blames The BRAD Club for causing her to fall, saying it negligently failed to maintain the premises in a reasonable condition, failed to inspect the premises, failed to make reasonable repairs and failed to warn of a dangerous condition.
In her complaint, Coleman is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus costs, interest at the highest legal rate and other relief the court deems just.
Jason E. Payne of The Payne Firm in Houston will be representing her.
The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
