Lance Warren is suing the Sonic Drive In on 11th Street, alleging a defective freezer caused him to fall and injure his knee.
Warren filed the suit Oct. 27 in Jefferson County District Court. Sonic supervisor Doug Cole is also named as a defendant.
Court papers show that on April 1 Warren, a Sonic employee, was in the course and scope of his employment when "he fell due to a defective freezer on the premises."
The suit does not explain in detail how the defective freezer caused Warren to fall and injure his knee.
Warren alleges Sonic and Cole negligently failed to provide him with a safe place and remedy the dangerous condition.
He also claims the defendants failed to instruct him on how to perform his job duties and supervise him.
Warren is suing for past and future mental anguish, pain, medical expenses and lost wages.
He is represented by Beaumont attorney Adam Terrell of the Weller, Green, Toups & Terrell law firm.
Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
